> Frequently Asked Questions

Where do you shoot?
For the most part in a Bend, Oregon studio where I have easy access to backdrops, lighting and props. I will shoot on location when the situation requires it.
Will you shoot in my home or a location of my choosing?
This is considered on a case by case basis and requires an assessment of the location in advance (for lighting needs, prop requirements, accessibility, etc). For boudoir shoots in particular this can be a very practical solution for a client who may have locations in their own home or elsewhere they are very comfortable with and desire to use as their setting.
Do you have a hair stylist available or should I arrange to have my hair done before my shoot?
Please plan on having your hair done before your shoot. You may also be asked to change your hair during your shoot. It is up to you if you would like to hire a stylist for your photo shoot.
How about makeup? Should I do my own makeup?
Depending on the style of shoot we're doing, less is more. But it's certainly a good idea to come prepared with the ability to do your own makeup. If you would like assistance with makeup, I can recommend the services of an incredible makeup artist from Mac cosmetics. Rates for your photoshoot would be:

1 person:
$75 for 1/2 day (2-4hrs)
$100 for full day (4+hrs)
$45 for a single session

The artist uses all Mac makeup and guarantees the look you want.
How far will you travel to shoot?
As far as the check takes me.
Can I bring somebody to my shoot?
If you would like a friend or family member to accompany you to your shoot, by all means. Shooting sessions are 'closed' to observers however. This does not include hair, makeup, wardrobe or technical assistants when required.
I don't think I look much like a model...
Unless you want to BE a model, the most important thing is being yourself and giving yourself the chance to look your very best.
Can you help me become a model?
I can certainly help you get started. Experience is important and I can help you gain it. Building a portfolio is important for an up and coming model, so taking great headshots and assembling an array of excellent shots for comp cards and your general portfolio are key. I can help you do that.
By the way, what exactly are comp cards and why are headshots so important?
A Comp Card (short for Composite Photo Card - also referred to as a Zed Card) is simply a collection of images on heavy photo or card stock, usually with some stats, high production values and a glossy finish.

Headshots are the staple of any serious model. It's about 100% self promotion. You absolutely must have great headshots.
I've heard of photographers and models working TFP - what does that mean?
TFP has a few different definitions that basically mean the same thing. 'Time or Trade for Prints', or 'Time or Trade for Portfolios' are common usage. In brief, when either the photographer or model is working TFP, they're not getting paid. Compensation comes in the form of experience, portfolio work, or other agreed upon terms.
I'm really nervous - should I be?
The most important thing for you to do is HAVE FUN! Relax, be yourself, enjoy the opportunity to be the 'star' for awhile. Let me worry about the technical details.
